Neurodiversity-Affirming Therapy

Many of my clients experience the world through a neurodivergent lens. It can feel refreshing to work with a therapist who “gets it.” Therapy with me is NOT about learning how to change who you are in order to fit in. It’s about gathering resources to help you navigate the world in a way that’s joyful, safe, and authentic to you.

What is Neurodiversity-Affirming Therapy?

Rather than a formalized set of interventions, ND-Affirming therapy is an overarching framework that guides therapists’ work in a way that prioritizes the validation and affirmation of the ND experience. In session with an ND-affirming therapist, you may notice:

  • YOU are considered the expert on your experience and your neurotype

  • Validation of both the joys and challenges of the ND experience

  • Support with any stage of the diagnosis process (processing a recent or historical diagnosis, exploring self-diagnosis, completing an Adult Autism Assessment with me, etc.)

  • Sensory experiences, special interests, and anti-ableism may be topics of discussion

  • Personalized care, regardless of neurotype (Autism, ADHD, learning disabilities, etc.)

If Neurodivergence is an aspect of your identity, you are exploring self diagnosis, seeking formal diagnosis, or you have a loved one who is neurodivergent, a therapist who identifies as Neurodiversity-Affirming could be a good fit for you.
